PCBU's need to identify all the hazards in their business including exposure to hazardous substances and then work through the hierarchy of controls to either eliminate the risk of exposure, or where this is not possible minimise it down as far as is reasonably practicable.
If the risk of exposure is minimised then Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will normally play a key role, as although it is considered a last resort control it is also an additional final barrier complementing other collective controls i.e. local exhaust ventilation systems (LEV's).
3M are just one manufacturer of PPE on the market, however they have produced a very useful 'Respiratory Protection in Construction' poster that I feel may be of use to many.
